Protein Structure (H. Oschkinat)

Structure and function of non-catalytic protein domains
WW domains as models for the study of protein folding and in proteomics
Towards structure determination of membrane proteins by NMR

The main focus of our group is the structural characterisation of protein-protein interactions that are responsible for the reception and transduction of signals in biological systems. This research focuses on protein domains which recognise specific peptides on the one hand and on membrane integrated receptors and receptor-ligand complexes on the other. The department is also involved in structural genomics of soluble and membrane proteins, supported by NMR technical developments. The latter aim at higher throughput and towards concepts for structure determination of membrane proteins by solid-state NMR.
